John Lavery (Irish, 1856-1941), "The Lady in Black and Green (Mrs. Dudley Ward)," 1920, oil on canvas, signed lower right, titled, dated and signed verso, gallery label (Barbizon House, London, UK) affixed verso, canvas: 36"h x 28"w, overall (with frame): 45"h x 36.5"w. Note: Freda Dudley Ward (1894-1983) was an English socialite best known for being the married mistress of the Prince of Wales, who later became King Edward VIII, from 1918-1929. His reign lasted less than a year when he abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson in 1936.
