Description
Pair of Chinese huanghuali horseshoe back armchairs, each featuring 'S'-shaped back splats delicately carved with a scrolling bracket design and decorated with a ruyi-shaped mythical beast inlay, the curving top rail supported on the round-section back posts and tapered side posts, the horseshoe terminating in rounded outward hooks, the soft mat seat on rounded legs joined by a plain apron and a stepped stretcher frame above the feet, 38.5"h. x 25"w. x 24"d. Provenance: Acquired in Hong Kong, 1989.
