Description
Bokara Maymuru (Australian, 1932-1982), Ancestral Being Bamapama, pigment , cloth, and hair on wood carving totem, artist label affixed, unsigned, overall: 42.5"hx 9.5"h x 5.5"w. Note: An Aboriginal known for bark paintings, classificatory brother Bokarra, along with Narritjin Maymuru, and Nanyin Maymuru were the leaders of the Manggalili clan, a small nomadic group of about fifty people, who lived at Djarrakpi (Cape Shield), in North East Arnhem Land.
