Reference: "Slikarstvo Vladimira Varlaja" ("Vladimir Varlaj's Painting Oeuvre") by Dr. Franco Dulibic. Dr. Franco is Professor of Art History at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. Exhibition history: 1926: Sesquicentennial International Exhibit (Philadelphia and New York); 1927: California Palace of the Legion of Honor (San Francisco); 1935-1936: California Pacific International Exposition at the Fine Arts Gallery in Balboa Park (San Diego); 1945: "Art of the United Nations" at the M.H. de Young Museum (San Francisco); 1995: "San Francisco Revisited: The Founding of the United Nations," at the M.H. de Young Museum (San Francisco). Provenance: Private collection Orinda, California (by descent); Prior to acquiring in the 1930s by Mr. and Mrs. Milton D. Redford, this painting was in the Carl Hamilton Collection and the Collection of the Anglo & London Paris National Bank in San Francisco.
