A Veracruz 'Smiling Figure' Remojadas Veracruz, eastern Mexico, "Sonriente" or cheerful 'smiling figure' standing with arms raised seemingly skyward, circa A.D. 600--900, the beatific smile perhaps depicting the euphoric stupor caused by the halucinogens given to persons about to be sacrificed to the gods, some traces of white and red pigments, e.g. lime, stucco, and cinnabar, 18.5"h Provenance: Collection of Vanna and N. Lee Lacy (Palm Springs, California). Mr. Lacy was a prominent Hollywood producer of films, creative golden-era TV series, and iconic commercials. His collecting has spanned six decades.
