Description
A pair of cultured pearl, diamond and 18k gold day/night earring clips, Arthur King

of naturalistic design, the tops centering two semi-baroque cultured pearls measuring approximately 10.80 x 10.10 mm and 10.50 x 10.00 mm, suspending detachable drops featuring two additional pearls measuring approximately 10.00 x 9.90 mm and 10.15 x 9.85 mm, fully accented with round brilliant and single-cut diamonds; estimated total weight for the pair: 1.55 carats; signed King 18k, with maker's mark: 25.07 dwt; length: 2 in. Arthur King, the self-taught New York based mid-century jeweler, created a uniquely beautiful modernist line of jewelry that was known for a naturalistic or organic use of gold with baroque pearls and diamonds and other gemstones. In 1962, he opened his New York shop, and throughout the 1960's and 1970's developed ground breaking styles for both women and men, with celebrity devotees including Elizabeth Taylor and Lena Horne. The freeform bark or vine like gold work in his designs is highly appreciated today and desired by collectors of Modernist jewelry.
