Description
A tourmaline, diamond and 18k gold brooch-pendant, Arthur King

of freeform design, the pendant-brooch featuring a leaf and fruit motif carved blue-green tourmaline measuring approximately 35.0 x 20.0 mm, accented by 9 irradiated and near colorless round brilliant- cut diamonds, with hinged bail; estimated total diamond weight: 1.50 carats; signed King 18k with maker's mark; 22.81 dwt; length: 2 1/4 in Arthur King, the self-taught New York based mid-century jeweler, created a uniquely beautiful modernist line of jewelry that was known for a naturalistic or organic use of gold with baroque pearls and diamonds and other gemstones. In 1962, he opened his New York shop, and throughout the 1960's and 1970's developed ground breaking styles for both women and men, with celebrity devotees including Elizabeth Taylor and Lena Horne. The freeform bark or vine like gold work in his designs is highly appreciated today and desired by collectors of Modernist jewelry.
