A scratch model of the Civil War iron clad ship the USS Monitor, mid 20th century, the submersible ebonized brass plate clad on a wood frame, overall 15"h x 48.5"w x 12.25"d. Provenance: Ken Brown, Franks Fisherman, San Francisco. Note: Launched in early 1862, the USS Monitor was the first ironclad warship commissioned by the US Navy. With this revolutionary design, it marked a turning point in naval warfare, transitioning from wooden ships to ironclad vessels.
