A Jonah Kumalae ukulele and plate for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exhibition (PPIE), the ukulele marked on headstock with 1915 decal and interior label with highest award and retailed by La Harmonie Company, Louisville, KY, 21"l and a Wheelock porcelain plate with view of Hawaiian Pavillion retailed by Charles Brown & Sons, San Francisco, CA. 8.25"dia, together with a silver mounted coconut engraved 'GUAM 1909', 3.25"h [3 total]. Note: The ukulele was first introduced to the mainland United States at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco in 1915. The exposition featured Hawaiian musicians playing the ukulele in the Hawaiian Pavilion and other exhibits, which sparked a craze for the instrument.
