Description
A rare and important Florentine early polychrome cassone, 14th/15th century, the front centering the Bardi and Perazzi armorial flanked by an armillary sphere and an astrolabe; the case sides depicting three golden rings, 22.75"h x 70"l x 18.25"d. Provenance: Property of a San Francisco Private Collector. Note: originally part of the furnishings of the Palazzo Bardi, Florence. The Palazzo Bardi is a significant Renaissance palace, known for its historical connections to one of Florence's most powerful families and its architectural importance. The Palazzo is still occupied by the Bardi descendants. The first two floors are a museum of Bardi treasures including several cassone that descended through the generations.
